31 Days to His Heart :: When Pride Makes a Mess of Everything {Day 17}

31 Days Button
Thank you for visiting Fan the Flame!
I’m humbly treading the hallowed ground of the Heart of God for the 31 days of October.  First we look deep into the Beauty of His heart, shown through God the Father and His Son Jesus, then, we peer into the fragile and yet powerful role of our own hearts as we seek His and learn to live it in this world.  To read the entire series go{here} 31 Days to His Heart.
May YOU be blessed with a touch of Him TODAY…He who desires and is Fully Worthy of ALL of our hearts!

And so following the heart’s own way, pride of the heart, becomes a central foe in the story of the heart
Numbers 37: 37-41
The LORD said to Moses, "Speak to the people of Israel, and tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a cord of blue on the tassel of each corner. And it shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of the LORD, to do them, not to follow after your own heart and your own eyes, which you are inclined to whore after. So you shall remember and do all my commandments, and be holy to your God. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God: I am the LORD your God."
Fall Beauty 031
And the story continues and God, moved in His Heart, sets a course to redeem a people for Himself covenants with the fallen men and women that He loves.
But, the story of the heart is plagued with a terrible foe: PRIDE.
All of the sons of Adam {which is each of us} would be born into this world with a deepest-in-everything imprint of the Image of God, longing to be restored to its former glory.
The Heart of God knows that that glory only comes through restored relationship with Himself, for only full in the light of His Perfect Heart can perfect heart be reflected.
However, heart of man battles a foe that diseases his heart.  With each longing and step toward God, there is a dueling affection for self whispering lies that glory can be achieved by oneself.
This was the fall of Satan, Lucifer, himself.  Believing that his beauty deserved to stand on its own and not only been seen in the light of the Only Worthy One.  And that heart poisoned him and one third of the angels with him and human heart needs to remember that his is the beauty that comes with the lie…grotesque apparition beyond redemption.
But God is ever calling to hearts to come Home to the only place where we fit and can know beauty and live in and out of Glory.
Looking into our hearts, we cannot expect to be different than Abraham who put his wife in jeopardy twice to protect himself.  Or Jacob who deceived to get what he wanted.  Or Moses who was so focused on his lack of ability to speak that He could not see anything of what the Great I Am might do in Him to change that.
Our hearts make the lie alive when we deny the insidious nature of the pride-diseased matter of which they are made.
But He, He knows these inclinations and He tells us how to find the greater glory of the heart. Bind Him to us.  To place the truth of His everlasting love, holiness, relationship-driven, merciful, and gracious Heart like tassels on ALL OF OUR CLOTHES.  To never forget its our hearts He is after and everything He commands is SO THAT we might come Home.  We might be restored. redeemed. made new.
Pride is real, great, BUT, YES, He is FAR Greater and our image-bearing heart’s longing for Him squelches blazing fires of self…
But, our hearts need to come to His.  To behold and partake and drink sweetly of His matchless seat of affection.  This, this fans the flame where He. Alone. is. GLORY!

Praying His Heart
I fall at Your feet. And yet I look up because that is worship.  Thank You that one look at Your face, one touch of Your heart, one taste of Your love, one sound of Your Voice, one sweet waft of Your Grace is everything to our deepest hearts.
Thank You that You love us in our pride-diseased state and Love us more to never, ever keep us there.
Relentlessly pursue our hearts that we might be healed, whole, Home, looking only to You. Your Glory.
This is our deepest longing and we remember as we bind the balm of ALL that Your Heart is to ours.
