31 Days Button

Thank you for visiting Fan the Flame!

I’m humbly treading the hallowed ground of the Heart of God for the 31 days of October.  First we look deep into the Beauty of His heart, shown through God the Father and His Son Jesus, then, we peer into the fragile and yet powerful role of our own hearts as we seek His and learn to live it in this world.  To read the entire series go{here} 31 Days to His Heart.

May YOU be blessed with a touch of Him TODAY…He who desires and is Fully Worthy of ALL of our hearts!

And this is how the story of the heart begins…

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Genesis 3:5-8

But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate…And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

Genesis 6:5
The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Genesis 6:6
And the LORD was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.

Genesis 8:21-22
And when the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, the LORD said in his heart, "I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease."

In the beginning God creates man and woman after His own image.  At the core of this image is the heart.  The crowning elements of His Creation are made to perfectly reflect the love, goodness, mercy, and grace of His heart, dwelling in perfect relationship with Him and each other.

But, soon, oh so soon, a lie enters the heart of the woman and she succumbs to the deadly poison that she cannot trust the heart of this God with whom she has unblemished relationship.  The man does not believe strongly enough to object and so in his passivity agrees to the lie.

In the moment where the heart ceases to reflect the perfect love of God and the LIFE that exists within the fullness of His heart, all of perfection in the created world is shattered for the man and woman, its steward, and everything they are meant to guard.

The heart—the place where deepest union with God is known--is turned over to the enemy, becomes the tool of the enemy, his weapon wielded to ravage what was meant to be the source of Life. of God within.  of Heart-to-heart relationship in fullness.

And the very first time we hear God’s heart mentioned it is grieved.  The first betrayal of union has bred rampant wickedness and He cannot bear the desecration of His heart in His image-bearers anymore.

But, He preserves humanity, a faithful heart that follows Him…Noah.  And when this Noah, after all of the destruction of the earth, except the arc of salvation with Noah, his family, and two of every kind, sacrifices on an altar to honor the God who is Author of all?

The heart of God responds with a rainbow. a promise. a full-fledged stake in the heart of men and woman,  KNOWING THAT EVERY INTENTION OF MAN’S HEART IS EVIL FROM YOUTH, yet trusting in the weight of His image that runs deepest through the heart of people.

A risk? A naïve act on the part of God?

He is leveraging all of His perfect self imprinted most deeply in the ones who grieve Him most yet, more, are created for Glory.

A reminder to you and me that though the heart deceives, is full of intentions that become the enemy’s too-often tools, diametrically opposed to God, His. Heart. In. Us. Is. Greater.

Greater, Greater, Greater…

{looking forward to continuing the story of the heart as we see His plan unfold to bring us Home to His Heart forever…}

Praying His Heart

Lord God, Thank You.  Thank You for revealing to us the Story of the Heart.  Though it is tragic to know of the grieving of Your heart, You bring HOPE in the midst of Your own grief.  You stake everything on You and Your heart and that is Glory.

I am humbled to speak even a tiny bit of Your heart and how You draw our hearts to Yours.  Lord, would You teach us great, mighty, beautiful, truth that will change us in our heart of hearts?

All so that You might receive more and more Glory through our hearts coming Home to Yours…
