31 Days to His Heart :: His Heart is Everlasting Love {Day #2}

31 Days Button

Thank you for visiting Fan the Flame!

I’m humbly treading the hallowed ground of the Heart of God for the 31 days of October.  First we look deep into the Beauty of His heart, shown through God the Father and His Son Jesus, then, we peer into the fragile and yet powerful role of our own hearts as we seek His and learn to live it in this world.  To read the entire series go {here} 31 Days to His Heart.

May YOU be blessed with a touch of Him TODAY…He who desires and is Fully Worthy of ALL of our hearts!

Before we take another step, let’s praise Him for the TRUTH of His Everlasting Love!

Psalm 103:17
But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children,

Isaiah 54:8
In overflowing anger for a moment I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you," says the LORD, your Redeemer.

Jeremiah 31:3
I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.

Lamentations 3:22
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; ______________________________________________________

As I was praying for clarity and direction in this VAST reality of the Heart of God, He so lovingly guided me to Psalm 103 .  While I was walking, listening to this passage, I was captivated by how clearly it declares many of the central characteristics of the Heart of God.  Especially verse 17, which may be the best summary of all of the Old Testament on the Reality of This Heart.  This God.  Defined from Everlasting to Everlasting by Love.

“the steadfast love of the LORD is from

everlasting to everlasting”

The brief word studies that I was able to do on both ‘steadfast’ and ‘everlasting’ revealed some pretty amazing things about the centrality and Holy Other uniqueness of our God and His Heart of Love.

In the over 200 references for ‘steadfast’ which almost exclusively are paired with love {especially in the Old Testament}, the overwhelming majority refer to the steadfast or SURE, ENDURING love of God.  It is a word that sets apart the kind of love ONLY GOD can give to us.

In the 60+ references for everlasting, it is used either for things that God establishes/creates {mostly covenant, also kingdom, way, salvation, joy} or to describe Him as ‘the Everlasting God’ or His love.  The extreme emphasis of ‘everlasting to everlasting’  is used ONLY to describe Him as the Only One who always was, is and ever will be AND in this one passage, to describe His Love.

This.  This.  Friends…is Life.  The most unique and matchless description of the span of God is used most specifically to describe His love.  It is true that everything else that He is is also ‘everlasting to everlasting’ like His holiness, power, immutability and much more, BUT in His Word, His special revelation to us, He chooses to only describe His Love this way.

Even though this is something I recognize about God, that love is the deepest, clearest, closest core of the ‘seat of affection’ {heart} of our God, I am yet amazed. Blessed.  Hushed.  To search His Word and find this unique description of what always has been and always will be true of Him, namely Oh how He Loves!!

I did not grow up hearing this {in church} nearly as clearly as it shapes me today.  Speaking too much of the Love of God was considered to de-value WHAT ELSE God is.  But, even as I write, I am seeing anew that this journey to His heart is changing me. how I see.

It is precisely in realizing that His LOVE is Everlasting to Everlasting and the deepest shaping affection of Him.  His heart.  that we can see all else of Him in this Exquisite Only-Illumining Light.

Praying His Heart

Lord God who IS from Everlasting to Everlasting, You ARE Love.  The Core of Your HEART, who You are in Your deepest uniqueness and Reality as God, is Love.  I am hushed and stilled and I just want to lose myself in this Everlasting to Everlasting~ness of Your Love!  I’m praying WE all desire THIS, desperately, as orphans longing for Our Long-Dreamed-Of True Home.  As we journey on, take us EVER DEEPER into You.  Your Heart.  Your Love…You ARE ALTOGETHER BEAUTIFUL AND WE PRAISE YOU! Amen

{Friend, if this Love of God that comes to live in us through Jesus is not your hope, your reality, would you please click here to find out more of what it is to embrace a God that can only truly be known by seeing His love}
