Laughter Thanks

"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me... provide for those who grieve in Zion--
to bestow upon them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of GLADNESS
INSTEAD of mourning..."
Isaiah 61

Thank you Lord...

laughter to melt cold hearts
laughter to diffuse stress
laughter to cheer up the brokenhearted
laughter to spice love for a lifetime
laughter to remind yourself you are human
laughter when tiny hands get gooped up with some forbidden delight
laughter when baby girl says "a-da-da" and smiles at papa
laughter, gut splitting and side hurting that only comes from the comfort of real friends
laughter instead of anger
laughter instead of sadness
laughter instead of madness or despair
laughter in the midst of mess
laughter for survival
laughter to remind us
nothing is
that important
that we cannot stop
and find humor
for we are Yours
the sheep of your pasture
You hold us in the palm of Your hand
and are bringing us forever Home
to the land
of no more tears...

Finding Many...

holy experience

On an evening where complaining and escape seemed like my only options (how sad)

I remembered I was overdue for thanks...

for a reason to live
for love
for Life with a capital L
for joy
for hope
for reminders today of lives without much of these things
for children to view the world through their eyes
for health (my family's been really blessed here!)
for Grace...Amazing. Real. Full. Complete and given freely in those closest.
for prayers to pray
and so much more
a God who hears each one
for Truth to be known

and for the little things like:
tickling giggles
and chubby armed hugs
for hands that reach up to hold
for food
for clothes
for warmth
and refreshing cool when I need it
for a sun to shine many days
for clean water
for clean air
for a car to drive
for money to pay for gas
for a wonderful neighborhood to walk in
for Thomas & Friends
Barney & Friends
and their entertaining lessons
and Veggie Tales
that bring home Bible stories better than I have been able to:)
for tags on blankets
for music from crib mobiles
for sound machines

for these things that I don't pursue enough:
An Eternal Word to study
Promises, so many, to meditate upon
A voice of the Spirit to guide in everything if but asked
The inexhaustible riches of Christ that are mine
Power. Resurrection Power to live as I am meant to.
And broken people everywhere who need the Good News
And that I have it to share:)

The bright clear
air is thick
with the click
of cosmic

Memories fly past--
Bright sparks of
in petition
of my trust.

It is hard to ward
off the pangs
of abandonment,
but the air
holds hope.

In the spattered
scenes of universal
a strand of clarity

Knowing, yet is held
a darkened, shadowy
over my face.

The whole will
not be
tied together
Its bright pieces
fly free.

A circle of endless
light looms
upon the
coming dawn...

...but it is coming
not now.

AWA May, 2000

Though much has come together in my life since I wrote this, I find this still holds true amidst the doubts and fears
the journey prolonged
in this valley of tears...

Oh, how my heart beats for that Coming Day.

I sit
and knit
the tethers
of fragments
of madness
and sadness
as drops
on me.

Pretty smell.
Can you tell
the rain
just came
and somehow
blades of pain
just found
rain's drink
the link
to life?

AWA Summer 2000

I wrote this poem in the summer of 2000 when I was writing quite a bit as a form of catharsis.
This one in particular has stayed with me.

Of Their Love I Write

Holding Hands Love Care Images

Through journey long and fields with weeds
Did fall full grain as unknown seed

Through mountain peaks and valleys low
Did oneness grasp and her shoots grow

When sunny meadows met darkened days
Was stronger yet her love displayed

When brows beaten low and dreams disappeared
Was upon his knees that strength appeared

In wilderness of plight and destitute beyond
Calling out from faint hearts a weakened song

In Grace of Father and Mother--the Love Divine
Heard and acted--spirit and human intertwined

So did rise up in love what hell could not defeat
And come to life again in one true heartbeat

So onward did the sweetness of love compel
And walked in songs sprung from a deeper well

Then came a Darkness greater than before
Life ebbed away beckoned by another Shore

Then time did stand still and Perfect Love rose
Leaving souls reunited to bittersweet repose

There were no more mountains to climb or valleys to cross
Standing at the edge of life--facing one final loss

There they stood in the tenderness of tried embrace
Holding on to four decades of a love in time and space

A Voice gently but clearly broke into their midst
Calling her Home to the first and deeper tryst

A tender brokenhearted man submitted to Higher Love
"Arise and go to Jesus" fly, my love, to heights above

I release you to an Eternity I will one day meet
So, then, will earthen love be made complete

These Nearest and Dearest 10 Things

holy experience

For life-filled, green-eyed, blonde-haired boys
For priceless, blonde fluffy-haired baby girls
For husbands full of faithful, self-sacrificial love
For beloved sisters near and far
For friends who walk with you on sidewalks and with hearts
For aunties who've loved you as long as you can remember
For nieces and nephews to be auntie to
For mama's who watch over from above
For papa's who rise early and pray hard
For a Good God who lavishes without end...

For these nearest and dearest 10 things--
